
Dr. David F. Nixon
Dr. David F. Nixon serves as District Superintendent of the Southern Florida District Church of the Nazarene since 2005. In this position he oversees eighty-one organized churches and 10 new starts in a multi-ethnic region of the Florida peninsula. Prior to this he served for ten years as District Superintendent of the Dallas District. He is a graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee, and holds the Master of Divinity degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. He also earned the Doctor of Ministry degree from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. He has had experience as a youth pastor and as a senior pastor of multiple-staff churches. His pastoral experience includes small, medium and large churches, rural and urban, small towns and metropolises. He moved to Dallas from Nashville after twenty-five years in the pastoral ministry, with pastoral assignments in Florida, South Carolina, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Tennessee.
During his ministry David has served on numerous boards and councils and currently represents the Southern Florida District on the Board of Trustees for Trevecca Nazarene University. He is the author of three books: The Year of the Locust and Venom in My Veins (Tate Publishing). His newest book is entitled Leading the Comeback Church, published by Beacon Hill Press in 2004. He has written numerous articles in his denomination’s periodicals and has also written Sunday School lessons for Word Action, the adult curriculum for the Church of the Nazarene.
David has been a retreat speaker for pastors and spouses and seminar leader of pastors’ Skill Schools and Pastors’ Learning Days. In 2004, led workshops for WordAction on Evangelism through the Sunday School in nine PALCONS at our Regional Universities. In 2006 he began a Leadership Training ministry to students and pastors and has made six trips to different parts of Africa for these training conferences, and two to Guyana.
Dr. Nixon and his wife Kaye, make their home in Lake Placid, Florida, and have two grown daughters, Sonya, who lives in Nashville, Tennessee and Jennifer (Keith) Grimaud of Columbia, South Carolina. They are the proud grandparents of Sophie Grace, Ava Louise, Brady Bennett and the newest addition to the family, Beatrice Ann Grimaud.
